Annual Holiday Luncheon & Awards Presentation
December 8, 2007, 11:30 am at the Lodge

All Saddle Creek Ladies (even non-golfers) are invited to attend our Annual Holiday Luncheon and Awards Presentation. Invitations were sent the week of November 5th. Click on the left image below to see the invitation (click again on the image when it opens, to make it larger).

As has become our tradition, we are supporting two local charitable giving causes: the Copperopolis Elementary School Science Camp and the Lake Tulloch Tootsies' Chapter of the Red Hat Society's Angel Tag Program. Captain's 2006 Year End Wrap Up

This was a year of "firsts" for us!

We started our first regular week-day play dates, this year! While the turnout was not as consistently large as we would have liked, your feedback has been that you want our Thursday dates to continue, so we'll resume in March or April, once the weather is more cooperative.

We held our first ever Copper Classic Invitational which was such a huge success – 84 ladies – almost as many as the men had for their invitational! We've had such great feedback that we're hoping to do another one this coming summer.

Ten ladies participated in our first Ecclectic tournament. In case you don't remember my earlier emails, this format is really fun. You pay a small one-time sweeps and then over the course of six months play six postable rounds of golf at Saddle – it can even be during one of our Saturday events - or it can be a round you play on your own, as long as its with another Ladies or Mens' club member. A giant scorecard is posted in the ladies lounge and each time you turn in your score card, the giant score is updated to reflect the best score you got on each hole. For instance, if you got a 6 on the first hole the first round, but a 5 the next round, the 5 becomes your score for that hole. When you're all done, you end up with one score for all six rounds and it can be VERY low! I think the ladies that played this year will agree that it was fun to compete against yourself to better your own score on each hole. Our EC period was from April to the first week in September. Hopefully, more of you will join in the fun next year!

We launched a complete redesign of SCWGA website. The site not only has our golfing events calendar, it also has info on our Board and Committees; our By-Laws and Rules; Past Champions; a Did You Know section that has info on etiquette and how to post your scores; links to the WGANC website and more! We're also working to add a Picture Gallery section to keep an online history of our events.

Awards/Holiday Luncheon
At this annual event, we announced the 2006 Ecclectic winners, as well as all of the other 2006 Award winners - see the list on our Awards Recipients page. Congratulations winners!

Our special guest at the Luncheon was Julia Tidball, Principal of Copperopolis Elementary School, who spoke to us about the school's Science Camp program for sixth grade students. As Principal Tidball told us, Science Camp costs $250 per child and we are thrilled (as is the school!) and proud that we raised $2565 - enough to send TEN children! This year our members also bought Holiday presents for 25 local children through the Angel Tag program - more (I believe) than we've ever done before! The beauty of Angel Tag program is that although its our members that buy and wrap the gifts, the children never know - they think the gifts came from their parents! By participating so whole-heartedly in both of these worthwhile programs, our ladies have once again shown embodied true Holiday Spirit! Many thanks to all of you who contributed and to Pat Thionnet and Carol Neach for organizing our fundraising efforts!

The Luncheon itself was a great success - check out the pics in our Photo Gallery! Our biggest turnout ever - 70 ladies! The food was great and the decorations - as always - just beautiful! Thanks to the entire Awards/Holiday Luncheon Committee for putting together such a great event and closing out the year with such style: Invitations an d Publicity: Dolores McCann and Linda Merrill; Name Tags: Barbi Marsden; Reservations: Karen Kaja; Decorations and Favors: Franki Koeper, Linda Merrill, Darlene DeBaldo, Pat Thionnet and Karen Kaja; Music : M.J. Young; Charitable Events: Pat Thionnet, Carol Neach; Centerpiece Give-away Poem: Pat Thionnet, Carol Neach; and last, but NEVER least, this year's Chair, Joni Slezak.

Next year's Luncheon will be on December 8th, so mark you calendar now! By the way, take a look at pictures of this year's Luncheon.

In closing, a few "thank you's" are in order.

I'd like to thank M.J. Young for serving as our Rules Chair for the past two years and for the seemingly boundless enthusiasm and energy she displays in everything she touches! We've all learned much from her clear explanation of some of those pesky rules! I'm sure M. J. would tell you that she has learned a lot about golf from holding the Rules Chair position - as I am sure one of you will too, now that the seat is open! Pam Woodford has agreed to take on the Rules Chair role for 2007.  Look for her first email in late January or early February.

I'd also like to thank Mary Ellen Lazarus for continuing to act as our Open Day Chair and my fellow Board Members - Co-Captain Laura Wilson, Secretary Barbi Marsden, Treasurer Susan Bresee, Handicap Chair Barbara Gaidsick and Tournament Chair Joni Slezak - for being so patient as we worked through our first year together.

Here's to another great golfing year!

Vicki Robinson, Captain
