Big Break Saddle Creek
On March 15, we will conduct our first annual Big Break Saddle Creek.
Entry fee is $20 and we will begin with a shotgun start for 9 holes of
golf on the back nine at 9 AM. The field will be split into two flights
by handicap and the low 8 net scores and ties for nine holes in each
flight will move on to the “Big Break” style skills competitions in our
practice area at the driving range. The low net player in each flight
earns a mulligan to be used at any point later on.
Big Break Contests
- Wedge shots to green with point circles. 3 shots
each, total up points. 6 highest pt. totals move on. Highest pt.
total earns mulligan. Elimination ties resolved by one shot playoff.
- 3 sand shots (short, medium, long) to green with
same pt. circles as #1. 4 highest pt. totals move on. Highest pt.
total earns mulligan. Ties resolved as above.
- 3 shots over/around barrier to green with point
circles. 3 highest pt. totals move on. Highest pt. total earns
mulligan. Ties resolved as above.
- Putting contest 3 holes (long, medium, short.)
Two lowest totals move on. Lowest total wins mulligan. Tie breaker
closest to hole on long putt.
- 3 hole regular golf (1, 2, 9) stroke play to
determine champion. One hole sudden death for tie breaker starting
at 1.
Call the Golf Shop to sign up - and if you can't play,
come out and cheer us on!
Hole-in-One!
Gordon Russ hit a Hole-in-One on Hole 11, with an 8-iron, on Monday,
February 18th! This was his second ace - way to go, Gordon!

Billing for 2008 Men's Club
The Member dues for 2008 will be billed in
December and appear on your next statement. These dues include NCGA
membership as well as our normal dues to fund the 2008 Men's Club
activities. Anyone wishing to either pay in another manner or decline
membership in 2008 should contact the Pro Shop immediately (by close of
business, roughly 4pm, on December 19th). Sorry for the late notice on
this one, but the Pro Shop has already contacted those in question so
this is more of a reminder to expect to see the billing on your next
statement.
Sign up for monthly events
Another reminder for 2008 is to ensure that
everyone is aware of the sign up cutoff for our monthly events. This is
important as many of the events involve seeding, tee time planning and
often setting up pairings by the Pro Shop. Late sign ups can
significantly impact the end product of these efforts. These events are
normally held on the 2nd Saturday of the month, with a deadline to sign
up of noon, on the Thursday prior to the event. Members signing up after
this deadline will be put on a wait list and while there is no
guarantee, efforts will be made to accommodate all who wish to play.
December 2007 Men’s Club Tournament Update
40 players participated in our 2-man Best
Ball/Scramble Tournament on December 8. In this event, each 2-man team
plays nine holes of best ball and nine holes of 2-man scramble. This
always proves to be an interesting and fun event. The field was tightly
packed with only 4 strokes separating the first 13 teams. Gregg Cass and
Dave Kaja led the field with an excellent score of 61 to take first
place and win $60. Here are all the teams that finished in the money.
Gregg Cass/Dave Kaja 61 $60 Jim Shields/Floyd Thoinnet
63 $55 Bill Schaefer/Steve Marsden 63 $50 George Cole/Chuck Gallo 64 $45
Thomas Dickey/Bob Kenyon 64 $35 Bob Grant/Charles Robinson 64 $30 Bob
Franssen/Bob Hansen 65 $25
It is also now cold enough that we decided to suspend
our “Summer” Match Play League and announce the winners even though a
few matches were not completed. In the Monday White League, Bob Kenyon
and Pete McCormick were victorious and in the Monday Combo League, the
teams of Ben Smith/Ken Saylor and Dave Kaja/Jon Slezak tied for first
place. Congratulations to the winners! Next year we will compress these
leagues into a six week period from early May to mid-June to encourage
completion of all matches in a timely manner.
Our 2007 points competition which adds results from
Men’s Club events throughout the year is now complete. Amazingly, we had
a tie for first place between 2006 Points Champion Adrian Alton and Mark
Mullins. Congratulations to Adrian and Mark. Here are the top ten
finishers for this year. Complete results will be posted on the Men’s
Club bulletin board in the Member’s Lounge.
Alton Adrian 367
Mullins Mark 367
Thionnet Floyd 348
Marsden Steve 260
Dalton Jim 235
Shields Jim 230
Gore Fred 215
Gallo Chuck 180
Lazarus Kent 160
We will kick off our 2008 Tournament season on
Saturday Jan. 12 with our traditional Get Acquainted Powerball Scramble.
This is a 4-man scramble with pairings determined by the pro shop. Sign
up and meet new members or players you haven’t played with before. The
registration deadline is Thursday, Jan. 10 at 12 noon.
2008 Tournament Schedule
The schedule of events for 2008 is in the final planning stages, with
the first event on Jan 12th as highlighted above. The plan includes
continuation or many of our most popular events, and addition of a few
new twists to add new opportunities to test your skills with your peer
group. So watch closely for the announcement of the 2008 schedule coming
soon!
On an additional note, we recently conducted a survey
of our members to ask if there was interest in including a "Gold Tee"
flight, for members over 65 years of age, as an option for future
events. The response was very positive with 14 members expressing
interest. In view of this, the Board approved this for inclusion, as is
possible and supported by sufficient sign ups, as an option for several
events in 2008. Look for this option in future Men's club event notices.
Golf for our Troops in the Middle East
One of our fellow members, Ted Boster,
suggested to the board that we do a drive among our membership to
collect used golf balls to be sent over to our Troops in the Middle
East. The Board agreed to support this and Ted offered to be the focal
point for collection. Members wishing to contribute from their current,
or soon to be sought out stock of golf balls may contact Ted at teoster@aol.com
. Thanks to Ted for taking this idea and willingness to take the "ball"
so to speak!!!
USGA rules changes for 2008
Many of you are probably already aware that
the USGA, along with the R & A, has announced some rules changes for
2008.
Read a summary of these changes. Remember, the rules can be your
friend!
Final note
The 2007 Board would like to extend our best
wishes to all of you for a safe and joyful holiday season.
Jon Jang, President
Dave Kaja, Secretary
Jerry Linstedt, Treasurer
Steve Marsden, Tournament Chairman
Charlie Robinson, Handicap Chairman
Chris Bittick, Head Golf Professional
Note from the Handicap Committee
Please remember to post your rounds at the conclusion of play -- both at
home and away. This is the only way we can have accurate handicaps for
all players.
All rounds of 9 or 18 holes should be posted. If you
only play 7 holes, you can and should post a 9 hole score. If you play
only 13 holes you can and should post an 18 hole score. For the holes
not played, your score would be "net par"/equitable stroke control. If
you don't understand how to determine your score or whether you should
post your round or not, you can ask in the Golf Shop or you can ask
Charlie Robinson, the Handicap Chairman. If you do NOT post a round, the
Handicap Committee can post that round in the computer on their own or
can post a penalty score. |
